Sewing Centers
Recognizing the importance of rehabilitation and economic empowerment, the Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners (CWP) operates sewing centers in the Women’s Prisons of Karachi and Hyderabad. Through these centers, trained instructors conduct sewing classes six days a week, helping women inmates develop valuable vocational and creative skills.
This initiative not only enhances the livelihood potential of women prisoners but also provides a constructive and therapeutic outlet that promotes self-confidence, discipline, and emotional well-being. Currently, 55 women are engaged in weekly sewing classes, gaining skills that support their reintegration into society after release.
Building upon this effort, CWP is launching Dast-e-Umeed, an online shop designed to showcase and sell handcrafted products made by women prisoners. The platform will create a bridge between prisons and the public, providing women with a sustainable source of income and recognition for their work. Dast-e-Umeed reflects CWP’s vision of transforming rehabilitation into opportunity, empowering women to rebuild their lives with hope, dignity, and financial independence.
