Alhamdulillah, I feel humbled and honoured to be assigned the responsibility of the Chairperson of the Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners. I am thankful to Chief Minister Sindh for placing his trust in me for discharging my responsibilities as the Chairperson.
It’s a great honour to continue the great legacy and remarkable work initiated by my predecessor Justice (Rtd) Nasir Aslam Zahid Sahib. As a then junior Government functionary, I was a witness in the Court of Chief Justice, to his benevolence and care for the underprivileged applicants who couldn’t hire advocates to represent themselves. The benchmark of public service set by my honourable predecessor is way too high. Under his remarkable leadership, the Committee has been able to represent over 29,000 under-trial prisoners which constitute 78% of the prison population in Sindh Province.
Being a humble son of this land of Sufi’s, may Allah give me vision and determination, along with my colleagues and associates to provide assistance to those in need of legal assistance and protection of their rights. I bring with me 40 years experience in public service in various positions like Chief Secretary in Sindh, Federal Secretary and Chairman of various public sector corporations, and magistracy.
I am committed to furthering the cause of the Committee to the best of my ability. I must place on record my appreciation for the very supportive role of the Home Department Government of Sindh and the Office of Inspector General of Prisons Sindh. Moving forward, our mission remains clear, to ensure that each single under-trial prisoner has access to justice and we will be working for a reform-oriented, equitable and humane prison system in Sindh.
May Allah Be my Hami O Nasir.
